  Lynsey Ashdown

Hometown: Sheffield

Introduction...

Lyns x (as she usually signs off her e-mails!) came to the attention of Board 4 Life via that spawn of t'internet know as MySpace. She basically has/had a very cool pic of her riding a rail up on there, so we left a message; saying something along the lines of 'hey that's a cool pic'. To which she said 'cheers' (or something). Then when we wanted some new flyers done we thought we'd see if she minded us using it. She didn't and before long she had suggested helping promote our company. Well we thought; why not and so we now have a very capable seasonaire who we are sponsoring for 06/07. What a beautiful story hey! Read more about what Lynsey thinks about snowboarding below (sounds like a bit of a pisshead to me, but hey that's fine by us!)

The latest from Lynsey is that she finished the 06/07 season ranked 95th in the world Ticket To Ride (TTR) women's rankings, as you can see here. She accomplished by competing at the Orange Aim events in Glasgow, Bracknell, Rossenadale and Dorset as well as the Brits at Laax, riding in the halfpipe and slopestyle there. You can see how she is doing in the 07/08 season here too. At the time of writing she currently lies 104th after coming 4th in the British Snowboard Tour at Castleford.

So who, how, what got you started with snowboarding?

Four years ago whilst drunk on a night out with mates we all decided to go down the Sheffield ski village the following day and get some lessons. Out of the 5, there were only 2 of us who made it to the end of the course – the others were wimps, ha ha! Loved it, booked a week in Val D’Isere straight after and the rest, as they say, is history!

What's your current board setup?

Amplid Phenia 150 (for mountain) and 144 (for park), Amplid Bachelor bindings, 32 Prospect Boots

And what stance/angles do you ride with?

Goofy, +15/-12, stance width – not sure, just whatever feels right!!

What do you most love about snowboarding?

The people – met so many good friends and riding buddies through boarding

Have you been in many competitions?

My first was in June this year – the Sheffield red stripe freeze. I was proper crapping myself! Since then I’ve tried to get to as many of the UK comps as poss – a few aims plus the local ones, they’re always such a good atmosphere!

Are you more of a freestyler or freerider?

Since I discovered rails a year ago it’s been all about freestyle for me although with a season in Morzine coming up I’m gonna try shredding some serious pow!

What's your favourite:

* Trick? Big floaty 1’s with a little tweak

* Resort? Got to be Morzine – that’s why I’m going back for the season!

* Saying? Siiiiiickkkk!

* Snowboarding memory? Oooh, that’s a tricky one – there’s so many! Probably pulling off my first ever boardslide without falling on my ass – and yes it took a while! (thank god for impact shorts, lol)

* Drink? Vodka, beer, wine, anything alcoholic! Partial to a good pint of cider though these days!!

If you have anything you'd like to ask Lyns drop us a mail at LynseyQuestions@board4life.co.uk and we'll pass them on to her. Can't guarantee when she'll answer mind, logging on to the net would be one of the last things on my mind if I was surrounded by snow day after day!
